Turning Ideas into Functional Prototypes
The Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) process offers founders the opportunity to transform their product ideas quickly, precisely and resource-efficiently into real metal components. A fine metal powder is melted layer by layer using a laser, allowing complex and durable parts to be created directly from CAD data without molds or conventional tools.
L-PBF provides significant advantages, especially in prototype development:
- Fast iterations: Design changes can be implemented and produced immediately without long setup times or tooling costs.
- Functional integration: Mechanical components can be manufactured in a single step with integrated channels, threads or cooling structures.
- Real material properties: The parts are fully metallic, high-strength and ideal for functional or load tests.
- Lightweight design and design freedom: Optimized structures reduce material usage, weight and costs.
L-PBF is far more than just a manufacturing process. It is a tool for turning ideas into market-ready prototypes at an early stage, validating technical feasibility and convincing investors or partners with real functional samples. With the L-PBF system available in the incubator, students, research staff and start-up teams can directly realize designs using aluminium, stainless steel or titanium.
