Spin-offs
Start-up support is a key pillar of the knowledge transfer activities at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Through the Start-up Service of the Transfer and Start-Up Center, the University of Magdeburg actively promotes entrepreneurial thinking and action among both researchers and students.

The focus is on the production of magnetic and electrically conductive plastics, as well as the targeted adjustment of the mechanical and tribological properties of materials. This enables the resolution of technical challenges in the manufacture of electric motors, electronics, sensors, automotive parts, as well as components for the aerospace industry and other industrial sectors. Furthermore, NanoFract produces micro- and nanopowders from various materials in scalable quantities. |

SURAG Medical GmbH Founded: August 2021 Contact: team@surag-medical.com SURAG solves an urgent, previously unresolved problem in minimally invasive surgery: the high complication rate of up to 9% when creating the laparoscopic surgical access using the so-called Veress needle. This results in significant additional costs for the treating hospital. We solve this problem with our audio-based plug-and-play sensor system, which assists surgeons in real time with the guidance and placement of the Veress needle. Unlike our competitors, SURAG uses the instruments with which surgeons are already familiar and supplements these with a cost-effective sensor system. Our technology can be easily adapted to many other applications, such as robot-assisted surgery. |

The major advantage: it saves up to 75 per cent in energy. |

In combination with microscopy and analytical methods, important conclusions can be drawn regarding the manufacture, processing and application of materials; where necessary, these methods are also used in the targeted assessment of complex damage cases. |
